We are the Gana's - Garry, Kelli, Graci, and Justin. We live on a small two and a half acre farm south of Houston in Alvin, Texas. We immediately fell head over heels over these small dairy goats and got our first Nigerian Dwarf Goat in February 2006. Now, we have a herd of twelve with more on the way.
On June 24, 2008, our first babies were born that will carry the Chocolate Bayou Farm name. We named our first baby Chocolate Bayou Holy Cow mainly because we keep asking ourselves "Holy cow, what have we gotten ourselves into?" We named the second baby Chocolate Bayou Quetzal, which is Guatemalan money. Yes, we have spent a pretty penny on these little guys, but it is worth it. The learning experience has been wonderful, in fact, priceless for our young kids. Learning to care for animals is one of those "life lessons".
We went to our first goat show in the Fall of 2007 in Louisiana. Even though we ended up only showing one goat because we misunderstood the term "dry doe," we met a lot of great people and had a great laugh about our misunderstanding. Graci and Justin had a great time showing their wethers and playing with all the other youngsters. The people alone made the trip worth while and we look forward to more shows to come.
A huge thanks goes out to Saul and Randy with Pride of Texas Ranch, Linda with Good Measure Farm, and Gary and Ineke with IK Caprines. We have learned so much from you all, and we greatly appreciate your advice on every aspect of goat keeping. We are very fortunate to have found all of you.
